A press tour for representatives of regional media outlets was held at Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University under the theme “University: Education. Science. Youth” as part of the admission campaign for the 2026–2027 academic year.
The main purpose of the event was to familiarize journalists with the work of the university’s Admissions Office, educational opportunities, research infrastructure, and modern laboratories. The press tour also aimed to strengthen cooperation between the university and regional media, enhance informational and outreach activities for prospective students, and congratulate journalists ahead of the Day of Media Workers.
Opening the event, Chairman of the Board – Rector Salamat Idrissov welcomed the media representatives and highlighted the university’s recent achievements and future development priorities. He spoke about the institution’s key objectives in delivering quality education, advancing scientific research, and training highly qualified professionals for the region, while also presenting the opportunities available to prospective students.
During the first part of the event, participants were introduced to the key features of the “Applicant–2026” admission campaign. Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Askhat Chukurov and Executive Secretary of the Admissions Committee Rauza Abylaikyzy provided comprehensive information on the application process, academic programs, opportunities to compete for state educational grants, and the procedures for creative and special entrance examinations.
The next stage of the press tour focused on showcasing the university’s scientific potential. Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation Kansulu Utepkaliyeva presented ongoing research projects, innovative initiatives, activities aimed at developing IT and engineering thinking, as well as achievements in environmental studies, ecology, and regional research.
Media representatives then visited the Caspian Environmental Comprehensive Research and Monitoring Laboratory. University scientist and Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Bolat Mukhambetov introduced the research conducted at the laboratory, highlighting projects aimed at addressing regional environmental challenges and explaining their practical significance.
As part of the program, journalists also visited the Daryn Inclusive Center, which provides support for children with special educational needs. Vice-Rector for Social Affairs and Youth Policy Laila Koishygulova presented the center’s activities and social projects and introduced the university’s efforts to promote inclusive education.
Participants toured the university’s Scientific Library and learned about its collection and the modern LibAU Library system. PhD and Associate Professor Kalamkas Bagitova provided information on the library’s digital resources and services available to students and academic staff.
During the press tour, media representatives were also introduced to the activities of the Department of Fine Arts and Design. Head of the Department, Master of Arts and Senior Lecturer Assel Bekesheva, spoke about the department’s academic programs, students’ creative projects, and achievements in practice-oriented education.
In the concluding part of the event, Rector Salamat Idrissov congratulated media professionals on the upcoming Day of Media Workers, celebrated annually on June 28, and emphasized the important role of regional and national media in promoting the university’s achievements in education, science, and public life.
“Representatives of the media have made a significant contribution to promoting the achievements of Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University, which has an 85-year history, including its educational accomplishments, scientific discoveries, and contribution to the socio-economic development of the region. Thanks to your efforts, news about the university is regularly covered at the national level. I am confident that the productive partnership between Atyrau University and the media will continue to grow stronger in the future,” the Rector noted.
Following this, Head of the Department of Journalism and Public Relations Omirbek Kadyrkhanuly presented the department’s activities, educational process, student achievements, and long-standing cooperation with regional media outlets. He also highlighted the department’s experience in training future journalists and strengthening ties with the media industry.
During an open discussion session, participants exchanged views on the admission campaign, innovations in higher education, and the relationship between science and the media, while also sharing professional experiences.
The event continued with a ceremonial award presentation held ahead of the professional holiday. To mark the university’s 85th anniversary, commemorative anniversary badges were awarded to distinguished alumni of the institution, including Nazarbek Koshshiyev, Editor-in-Chief of the Atyrau socio-political newspaper; Bauyrzhan Sisenov, Editor-in-Chief of Qyzylqoǵa newspaper; and Kairat Satayev, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Prikaspiyskaya Kommuna newspaper.
In addition, representatives and editorial teams of regional media outlets who have actively contributed to promoting the university’s initiatives in education, science, youth policy, and public life, as well as members of the academic staff who have consistently supported the university’s official information platforms, were presented with Letters of Appreciation and special awards on behalf of the Chairman of the Board – Rector.
The meeting concluded with an informal exchange of ideas between media representatives, university leadership, and faculty members, during which participants discussed future joint projects and prospects for further cooperation.
