From June 11 to 13, Almaty hosted the IAUP Central Asia Conference 2026, one of the most prestigious international events in the field of higher education. The forum brought together university leaders, international experts, representatives of government organizations, and members of the academic community from various countries around the world.
Representing our university at the conference was Bakyt Altynbasov, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Internationalization and Doctor of Educational Management.
This year’s conference was held under the theme “Impact-Driven Universities: Education, Leadership and Societal Change.” The forum provided a platform for extensive discussions on the role of universities in society, leadership in higher education, the principles of sustainable development, and the impact of higher education on social transformation.
Today, universities are viewed not only as centers of education and research but also as key institutions that contribute to social, economic, and environmental development. In this regard, the conference served as an important academic platform for international exchange of experience and the establishment of new partnerships.
As part of the forum, our university achieved significant progress in expanding cooperation with leading higher education institutions across Asia. Memorandums of Understanding were signed with Daffodil International University (Bangladesh), Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (India), and Sias University (China), paving the way for future academic collaboration.
In addition, several meetings were held with university leaders and representatives of international organizations to discuss prospects for future academic cooperation. Particular interest was generated by the experience of Sunway University (Malaysia), one of the country’s leading higher education institutions. The university is renowned not only for its strong performance in international rankings but also for its successful practices in values-based education, sustainable development, and the cultivation of global competencies.
During the conference, Bakyt Altynbasov met with scholars, experts, and representatives of the academic community from the United States, Canada, Mexico, and other countries. Discussions focused on the implementation of international educational projects, the development of scientific research, and the expansion of academic partnerships.
Our university’s active engagement within the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) opens new opportunities for enhancing academic mobility among students and faculty members, organizing international research internships, implementing joint research projects, and attracting visiting professors from abroad.
IAUP is a prominent international organization dedicated to strengthening cooperation among universities worldwide, promoting the exchange of best practices, and supporting the development of higher education systems. Participation in the association enhances universities’ international reputation and enables them to take an active role in the global academic dialogue.
We express our sincere appreciation to the leadership and staff of Almaty Management University (AlmaU) for their contribution to the successful organization of the conference. The forum created a productive environment for developing international partnerships, sharing professional expertise, and establishing new academic connections.
Participation in international forums of this scale strengthens our university’s position in the global academic community, creates new opportunities for students and faculty members, and contributes to improving the quality of higher education in Kazakhstan.
