«Biology, Geoecology and Grassland Production in Arid Zones» Scientific Centre Main Objectives

14.04.2026 21

Conduct fundamental and applied research in biology, geoecology, and arid forage production;
Coordinate scientific research at a high level on key issues of agricultural development and efficiency, and introduce scientific developments into agricultural production;
Develop scientific and methodological foundations and practical recommendations for the rational use of land and water resources, aimed at improving the productivity of irrigated and rain-fed lands in arid, semi-arid, and desert zones, including pasture ecosystems.;
Expand and improve scientific research in the field of crop breeding and seed production, and test breeding achievements;
Systematically develop “roadmaps” for improving land reclamation status and fertility, introducing intensive agro-technologies, and reducing production costs;
Coordinate research activities with research institutes and higher education institutions in the Republic;
Engage students, master’s students, and doctoral candidates in scientific work; participate in training highly qualified specialists in biology, geoecology, and arid forage production.

Main Functions

- Develop and implement advanced agro-technologies for arid forage production, and create a new generation of high-yield and reliable agricultural machinery and equipment;

- Participate in developing crop rotation schemes, taking into account soil fertility restoration (on moderately and heavily salinized lands);

- Develop scientific foundations for improving the reclamation status of previously irrigated lands and developing new areas, and introduce progressive land improvement methods;

- Publish scientific works of the Centre and disseminate scientific knowledge;

- Coordinate scientific research and innovative projects at the regional and national levels in biology, geoecology, and arid forage production;

- Develop projects and programmes for fundamental and applied research on key agro-industrial development directions using institutional resources;

- Prepare proposals for developing the scientific and technical potential of the Centre and strengthening the material base of science;

- Provide primary seed production of arid forage plants;

- Carry out scientific research on the basis of economic contracts;

- The Centre serves as an integration hub linking science, education, and production. This connection is realized through conducting field experiments and acquiring new knowledge that forms the basis for developing new technologies;

- Introduce the public and scientific experts to the best scientific and technological achievements through “Field Days”, seminars, and conferences; based on their outcomes, compile a list of scientific and technical developments for submission to relevant authorities for prototyping and production;

- Register research results as patent and invention applications and obtain breeding achievement certificates;

- Develop labour-market-oriented scientific and educational programmes based on field research that contributes to acquiring new knowledge;

- Update academic courses based on new knowledge acquired at the Centre;

- Conduct joint research with international and Kazakhstani partners;

- Improve the level and quality of specialist training in biology, geoecology, and arid forage production.
