Yerlan Kabiyev is a geographer and specialist in Physical Geography. He served as Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Head of the Department of Geography and Tourism. His research focuses on climate change, ecosystem conservation, and natural resource management. He possesses strong expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and spatial analysis.

As a researcher, he successfully implemented three large-scale projects addressing desertification control, sustainable land management, and water security:

AP23490925 “Achieving Sustainable Development Goals on safe access to water, sanitation, and wastewater management in Kazakhstan using artificial intelligence and machine learning”;

AP13068528 “Towards sustainable access to safe drinking water and sanitation in rural Kazakhstan: challenges in achieving SDG 6.1 and 6.2”;

0120RKI0094 “Development of breeding, seed production, and technological scientific foundations for high fruit-forage productivity of black chaste tree in semi-desert and desert zones of Kazakhstan to enhance labor productivity.”

He is the author of more than 100 scientific publications, including 14 articles published in international peer-reviewed journals indexed in Web of Science and Scopus, 9 articles in journals recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and one intellectual property protection document (Certificate of Authorship of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 22944, January 20, 2022, “Dynamics of the Zhaiyk River Delta and the Natural Potential of the Geosystem”).
