The Kazakhstan Civil Society Forum, themed “Shaping the Future Together,” was held in Aktau. Karlygash Ashirkhanova, Director of the Institute for the Development of Public Accord under the Department of Science at Atyrau University named after Kh. Dosmukhamedov, attended the event and shared her views and insights.
The forum focused on the key priorities outlined in the President’s Address to the Nation, including digitalization, the introduction of artificial intelligence, and improving the efficiency of public administration.
The event brought together representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government agencies, international organizations, diplomatic missions, and national experts. Among the distinguished guests were Aleška Simkić, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Elizabeth da Costa, Senior Human Rights Adviser at the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan.
Participants exchanged views on human rights protection, cooperation between NGOs and government agencies, and ensuring the sustainability of civil society organizations. Particular attention was paid to maintaining organizational activities after the completion of grant-funded projects, diversifying funding sources, and supporting local initiatives.
“The strength of public accord depends on mutual trust between people. Trust, in turn, is built through justice, transparency, and genuine dialogue. The priorities outlined in the President’s Address highlight the importance of systematic efforts to develop science and education, strengthen public accord, and enhance civic responsibility.
In my view, science and education enhance society’s intellectual potential, justice strengthens mutual trust among citizens, and public accord unites the nation around shared goals. Only when these values work in harmony can an environment conducive to sustainable development be established.
Therefore, universities, the scientific community, and civil society institutions have an important responsibility: to educate a knowledgeable generation, support scientific research, encourage civic engagement among young people, and foster a culture of mutual respect in society,” said Karlygash Ashirkhanova, Director of the Institute for the Development of Public Accord.
The forum also addressed the responsible use of artificial intelligence and the involvement of young people in the activities of non-governmental organizations.
In addition, participants discussed the draft Law “On Non-Governmental Organizations.”
The event was organized by the NGO Eco Mangystau as part of a project aimed at protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms through civil society initiatives in Western Kazakhstan.
