Teacher Training Issues Discussed in Atyrau

A traditional August Conference of Teachers was held in Atyrau. The meeting was attended by Bolat Aksholakov, Akim of Atyrau Region; Adilet Toibayev, Chairman of the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Salamat Idrissov, Chairman of the Board - Rector of Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University; and teachers from across the region.

The demand for qualified teaching staff in the Atyrau region is increasing every year. “Over the next five years, Atyrau Region alone will need 3,595 teachers. In addition, there is a demand for 126 special education teachers in the region. In this regard, Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University should strengthen its specialised teacher training programmes and focus on fully meeting the needs of schools in the region,” said Adilet Toibayev at the conference.

The Chairman of the Committee also noted that Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University has been implementing a number of systematic projects aimed at addressing the shortage of teaching staff in the region. One of these is the “Ustaz” School for young men, which has been operating at the University since 2021. The speaker highlighted the project’s effective performance and expressed appreciation for the innovative approaches used in teacher training.

In addition, since 2022, the University has been developing a mentoring system that connects the academic preparation of future teachers with the specific needs of schools. A total of 301 students participated in the system between 2022 and 2026. The presentation noted that, by engaging partner organisations in the three-stage project and offering more than 10 educational courses, the University has established a sustainable mechanism for interaction between the University and schools.

The presentation also highlighted the modernisation of the University’s material and technical facilities aimed at improving the quality of teacher training. In 2024 - 2025, with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Atyrau University was equipped with three modern classrooms for physics, chemistry and biology, as well as an inclusive education classroom. This has strengthened the practical training of future teachers and enabled them to develop the professional skills required to work with children with special educational needs.

The conference addressed a range of issues, including reducing the shortage of teachers in the region, strengthening the training of special education teachers, developing cooperation between schools and universities, modernising the infrastructure of teacher education, and enhancing the digital competencies of future teachers.

Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University will continue its joint efforts with the regional Department of Education and educational institutions to meet the region’s demand for qualified teaching staff and improve the quality of education.
