The Contribution of War Correspondents to Victory Discussed at Roundtable
Faculty members and students from Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University and V.N. Tatishchev Astrakhan State University held a roundtable discussion dedicated to the contribution of war correspondents to the Great Victory.
“Victory is our common heritage, a shared celebration that united all the peoples of the former Soviet Union. It is our duty to remember the names of the heroes and pass their legacy on to future generations,” said Ekaterina Pakhomova, Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Affairs at V.N. Tatishchev Astrakhan State University, in her welcoming speech.
During the event, Chairman of the Board – Rector of Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University, Salamat Idrissov, spoke about the significant role of the Kazakh people in defeating the fascist invaders during the Great Patriotic War and congratulated the attendees on the past Victory Day. “More than 1.2 million Kazakhstani citizens were drafted to the front. Over half of them did not return from the battlefield. Our soldiers displayed courage and heroism—1,500 residents of the republic were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. On the home front, 220 factories and plants were launched in the Kazakh SSR. Nine out of ten bullets were made from Kazakh lead. It is our duty to honor the names of the heroes and share their stories of bravery and labor with the younger generation,” emphasized Rector Salamat Idrissov.
