The Oralkhan Gumar Scholarship Awarded to Outstanding Students in IT!
At Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University, the Oralkhan Assetuly Gumar Scholarship was awarded to top-performing students in the field of IT.
The event was attended by the university administration, faculty members, students, and the mother of Oralkhan Gumar, Aigul Kaliyarbekkyzy.
Oralkhan Assetuly Gumar was a talented Machine Learning engineer and an active alumnus of the Kazakh-British Technical University. He was recognized as a top student in IT, receiving an invitation to Scotland during his third year of study to participate in an international project. He was also a prizewinner in various academic Olympiads in mathematics, mental arithmetic, and physics. Oralkhan dedicated himself to the digitalization of the Kazakh language, working on the development of systems for recognizing Kazakh and mixed Kazakh-Russian speech, as well as speech synthesis in Kazakh and Russian. Alongside his colleagues, he developed a neural network designed for Kazakh language transcription, based on 10,000 hours of audio data. He was a young inventor with a remarkable vision.
“From 2024 onward, a scholarship named after our dear Oralkhan has been awarded to IT students in his memory. This initiative serves as a significant support and a great opportunity for our students. His mother, Aigul Kaliyarbekkyzy, presents this scholarship with the hope that the youth will embody Oralkhan’s dreams, follow in his footsteps, and become initiators of impactful projects for the benefit of our nation. On behalf of the university, we extend our sincere gratitude for this meaningful contribution,” said University Rector Salamat Idrissov in his opening remarks.
During the event, participants watched a video highlighting the life and achievements of Oralkhan Assetuly. His mother, Aigul Kaliyarbekkyzy, delivered an emotional address, expressing her heartfelt wishes to the students. She presented the scholarships to outstanding students who have demonstrated exceptional performance and achievements in the IT field.
Scholarship Recipients:
• Nursat Otegen, 3rd-year student in the Systems and Network Administration program – 200,000 KZT
• Nursultan Berik, 2nd-year student in the Applied Informatics in Design program – 200,000 KZT
• Bektas Zhaksylyk, 2nd-year student in the Business Analytics and IT Project Management program – 100,000 KZT
At the end of the ceremony, the scholarship recipients expressed their gratitude, and all attendees took commemorative photos.
