“KHALEL GRAND CUP – 2025”

In honor of the 85th anniversary of Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University, the traditional regional debate tournament “KHALEL GRAND CUP – 2025” was held for 11th grade students from rural and district schools across Atyrau Region.

The aim of the tournament was to teach the younger generation to analyze pressing societal issues, promote the culture of debate, and provide students with the opportunity to win university scholarships.

At the opening ceremony, the Rector of Atyrau University, Salamat Idrissov, welcomed the participants and wished them success. “This tournament is a great platform to showcase the knowledge you have gained at school, your critical thinking skills, creativity, and worldview. One of the main objectives of this tournament is to offer university scholarships to students in the region. Moreover, through promoting debate culture, we aim to enhance students’ public speaking skills,” said Rector Idrissov.

Sixteen teams from seven districts of Atyrau Region took part in the tournament:
    •    Isatay District: “Rukh”
    •    Makat District: “Oidarmandar”, “Parasat”
    •    Kurmangazy District: “Akikat”, “Bolashak”, “Daraboz”, “Birlik”
    •    Inder District: “Zheltoksan”, “Zhas Kyrandar”, “Zhiger”
    •    Kyzylkoga District: “Zhiger”
    •    Makhambet District: “Shyrak”
    •    Zhylyoi District: “Shanyrak”, “Alash”, “Samgau”, “Adilet”

The debate tournament was held in both British Parliamentary (BP) and American Parliamentary (APF) formats, and winners were determined accordingly. In addition, the “Best Speaker” was selected through individual speaker scores using the Lincoln-Douglas format.
    •    1st Place – “Zhiger” faction: Musa Aidos, Berikkyzy Akgul (Kyzylkoga District, Mukyr Secondary School) – Full scholarships to Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University (for both participants)
    •    2nd Place – “Zheltoksan” faction: Katapov Murat, Yerbolatkyzy Kausar (Inder District, Zhambyl Secondary School) – 50% tuition discount
    •    3rd Place – “Akikat” faction: Zholmukhambetova Nurai, Rakhmetkyzy Zhuldyzai (Kurmangazy District, Enbekshi Secondary School) – 30% tuition discount
    •    Best Speaker – Yetaikyzy Zhansaya (Zhylyoi District, School No.3) – 50% tuition discount
    •    Best Judge – Ismukhanov Dauren
