April 24 – Birth Anniversary of Khalel Dosmukhamedov

Today marks the birth anniversary of Khalel Dosmukhamedov – a distinguished son of our nation, prominent public and political figure, encyclopedic scholar, professor, and our fellow countryman. He was born on April 24, 1883, in the Taisoigan area of the Kyzylkoga district in Atyrau region.
Khalel Dosmukhamedov made a tremendous contribution to the spiritual and intellectual development of the Kazakh people. He worked across various fields including medicine, linguistics, literature, history, ethnography, and biology, significantly advancing national science and culture. As a member of the Alash Orda government, he actively fought for the independence of the country.
The scholar was known for collecting and promoting rare examples of oral literature. He was a literary critic, educator, naturalist, and enlightener; a corresponding member of the Local Studies Bureau of the Russian Academy of Sciences; and a professor. He was also one of the pioneers in organizing public healthcare, higher education, and publishing in Kazakhstan.
Today, the leading higher education institution in Atyrau – Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University – proudly bears his name. The university honors the legacy of this great national figure by educating and inspiring the younger generation through knowledge and science.
