Discussion of Interim Results on Integrating Coursera Online Platform Courses into the Academic Process

At Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University, the interim results of integrating courses from the international Coursera online platform into the academic process were discussed. In this regard, Askhat Chukurov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, held a meeting with students participating in the pilot project to review the work carried out and the initial achievements.

The Coursera integration project is aimed at developing the digitalization of the university’s educational programs and enhancing students’ professional competencies.

Within the framework of the pilot project, students of the “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages” program are studying the specialized course “Business English for Non-Native Speakers” (119 academic hours). Currently, 16 students are continuing the course, three of whom have successfully completed it and received international certificates.

During the meeting, students shared their opinions on the effectiveness of online learning. They highlighted the advantages of Coursera courses, such as flexible learning, relevance of the materials, and international recognition. Organizational issues and course adaptation mechanisms were also discussed, along with ways to expand this experience to other programs.

Considering the importance of the course and its compliance with academic standards, the university administration decided to include it in students’ diploma supplements (transcripts).

Based on these positive results, the experience of integrating Coursera courses will now be extended to the educational programs of the Information and Communication Technologies direction.

Askhat Yeralyuly emphasized the strategic significance of this initiative:

“The interim results of this project demonstrate that our students have access to globally recognized knowledge and confirm that our university is moving in the right direction. Including Coursera courses in diploma supplements increases graduates’ competitiveness in the labor market. We will continue to enhance the academic process through digital platforms,” he said.

Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University aims to provide high-quality education that meets modern educational standards by gradually integrating global online learning practices into the academic process.
